Tetris Didn't Win at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification Could Fix That

Whenever a prominent prize-giving event draws close, you'll find a demand for introducing of new categories to recognize unsung work and satisfy the passions of fans with niche passions.

Another commentator made the case for a horror game category. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. However, I must insist for pushing forward just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand stands as crucial and significant. This is the request: It's essential to create a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Organizing Gaming Categories

Classifying creative works defies precise measurement; it’s very subjective, and typically start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason movie academies avoid this approach. However, it represents a necessary evil for the industry of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they barely qualify one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of achievement in video games to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards currently feature genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, Role-Playing, Fighting, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Collectively, these award types effectively encompass a lot of ground, and you can find room for most games within them.

This doesn't apply to brain-teasing titles. No suitable classification appears to put them. Examine these examples from recent excellent titles, each quite distinct: building puzzles in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios in another game. Which classification works between these six categories? Nowhere, that’s where.

Acknowledgment Issues

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year without proper recognition during gaming ceremonies, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested independent game categories.

  • A renowned logic title received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another imaginative release received no nominations that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked in 2021
  • Just some puzzle games scraped into independent or mobile categories

Importance of Logic Titles

These are often modest productions, yet the craft of the puzzle game carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles count as most engaged experiences in the world and have been for many years.

The iconic tile-matching title challenges famous sandbox experiences competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, and engaging with almost every other genre.

The Solution and Justification

Brain-teasers wouldn't encounter this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games each ceremony simply — perhaps, with difficulty, given the need to exclude numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the hard edge interactive creation, creating some of most fundamental forms of the video game form. Just like film action specialists, they merit acknowledgment. We shouldn't delay 35 years.
