Hodgkinson Wraps Up Season with Winning Display at Athlos Meet in NYC
Hodgkinson achieved her fastest time of one minute 54.61 seconds the previous season in London.
The Olympic champion concluded her two-lap campaign with a triumph at the women-only Athlos event in New York on Friday night.
{The current Olympic champion, who earned third place at the global championships recently, dominated an impressive victory in 1:56.53 in what was just her sixth appearance in a season impacted by a muscle issue.
Fellow Briton and world silver medallist Georgia Bell finished second once more in one minute 58.33 seconds, while St Vincent's Shafiqua Maloney (1:58.57) claimed third.
"I haven't competed much this season so it was likely less of a struggle for me to go out there and want to give it something," said the 23-year-old.
"The atmosphere at the event is crazy so it was extremely enjoyable."
The female-exclusive event packed Icahn Stadium in its second edition, bringing a party atmosphere to traditional track, with live music and Tiffany & Co. crowns substituting traditional winners' medals.
The 23-times tennis major winner Serena W., who is wed to Athlos founder Alexis Ohanian, was present to award the victors with their tiaras.
Previous champions took home sixty thousand dollars (£44,603) - among the biggest cash prizes in athletics.
The competition also drew some of the sport's biggest names, as Kenya's three-time Olympic gold medallist and global record breaker Faith Kipyegon won the mile, crossing the finish line in 4:17.78.
American Brittany B., the 200m bronze medallist from last year's Paris Olympics, won the 100m and 200m double.
